Video games. Something that used to be one of my favorite pastimes, I now rarely enjoy. Just look at what's happened over the years.
Just mention video games, and the first thing that your bombarded with is thousands and thousands of magazines, television channels, and websites full of complaints, critiques, reviews, previews, complements, screenshots, stupid jokes, nearly naked computer rendered women, commentary, rumors, specs, and irritating computer lingo. Look at what's happened. This used to be something beautiful, an escape. Now it's all just a big headache. Projects are hyped up for years before the release of the game, only to come out and play worse than a dead walrus. And those aren't very fun. Then, in the rare occurrence that a game is released that is actually good, it's attacked. It's not deep enough, not gory enough, not a good enough story, not innovative enough, to "kiddy," or the ever-so-popular, flat out "gay." Because of this, games tend to suck now. Bad. I know I'm being over dramatic with all this, but think about it.
Video games used to be the perfect thing all the kids who got beat up by the quarterback of the football team to get away and do. To share. A perfect subculture. Or maybe, a perfect anti-subculture. You don't have to fit in. It is, after all, just a game. Just something to laugh about between school time. Now, the entire football team seems to have roamed the country, beat up all the nerd kids, and taken our video games. And they're playing them. Beefing them up. Making them "cooler." I just don't understand why no one has said anything. Probably because either 1) No one's noticed, we've all been to busy looking at pretty video game explosions, or 2) Those big football kids are still scary to us. Or maybe both. I really don't know. What I do know, is that we don't ask for much. We stay out of your way; we give you our lunch money. Now could you give us our video games back, please?
Oh, and you had better do what I ask. I am a level nine wizard, you know.
